Know your power strip

Keep power-strip cords out from under rugs. Foot traffic can damage hidden wires, and rugs can trap heat around the cord.
Inspect power strips and cords regularly. Replace any strip with frayed cords or cracked, brittle insulation.
Check the power strip’s watt or amp rating before plugging in devices. Keep their combined load within that limit.
