Electrical Safety Tip

Stay clear of downed power lines

A fallen power line may still carry electricity. Treat every downed line as live.

Electricity from a downed line can spread through nearby ground, putting people at risk without direct contact.

Wet ground can extend the danger beyond 35 feet from a fallen line.

Stay at least 35 feet from fallen lines, farther in wet conditions. Keep others away and call 911.

Do not drive over a fallen line or through water touching one. Choose another route.

Leave fallen wires where they are. A stick or other tool does not make moving them safe.
