Heating appliances typically draw more power than small electronics, so they can place a much greater load on an electrical circuit.
A power strip adds outlets, but it does not necessarily protect against power surges. Surge protection is a separate feature.
A power strip’s watt or amp rating sets how much power it can handle. The number of outlets does not determine its capacity.
Keep power-strip cords out from under rugs. Foot traffic can damage hidden wires, and rugs can trap heat around the cord.
Inspect power strips and cords regularly. Replace any strip with frayed cords or cracked, brittle insulation.
Check the power strip’s watt or amp rating before plugging in devices. Keep their combined load within that limit.
