Electrical Safety Tip

Prepare for a power outage

A storm-related power outage can last longer than an everyday interruption, so advance planning matters.

People who rely on electrically powered medical equipment can face serious risks when household power fails.

Battery-powered lights, charged power banks, and a hand-crank or battery-powered weather radio can help during an outage.

Keep flashlights or battery-powered lanterns easy to find, with spare batteries that fit them.

Charge phones and power banks before an approaching storm. Keep the cables and adapters your devices need with your emergency supplies.

If someone uses powered medical equipment, arrange backup power and an emergency plan with their care team before an outage. Include battery backup for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
