Electrical Safety Tip

Electrical safety after flooding

Submerged electrical equipment may still be energized, even when it appears inactive.

Floodwater can leave hidden corrosion and damage that create later shock or fire hazards.

Electrical equipment exposed to water needs professional inspection before it can return to use.

Stay out of flooded areas until the electric utility has confirmed that power is off. Do not enter water to reach a breaker panel.

Do not touch submerged electrical equipment or try switching it on to see whether it works.

Arrange a qualified electrician’s inspection before restoring water-exposed equipment to service. Let the professional determine what needs replacement.
